SCJP is an entry-level certification
provided by
Sun Microsystems.The Sun Certified Java
Programmer (SCJP) credential is a premier certification for students
who want to program custom business solutions with Java development
tools and technologies.
The Sun Certified Programmer for Java 2 Platform 5.0 certification exam
(SCJP 5.0) is for programmers experienced using the Java programming
language. Achieving this certification provides clear evidence that a
programmer understands the basic syntax and structure of the Java
programming language and can create Java technology applications that
run on server and desktop systems using J2SE 5.0.
If you have a successful completion of previous
version of Sun
Certified Programmer for Java 2 Platform exam (SCJP 1.4), you don't
have to take the full exam. Sun offers an upgrade
exam option (SCJP:CX-310-056). The objectives of the exam are the same
seven as the main exam (SCJP: CX-310-055),
but it's assumed that you already have a basic level of comprehension.
You still need to know about new concepts like generics, and depending
upon from what version you are upgrading, you might also need to
understand newer concepts like regular expressions, introduced with 1.4.
